Night life is great here, if that's your thing.

Now, now SMS, not been out lately? :P

There is good nightlife here, perhaps it is just not your style...or you are too old :P :P

I've probably been partying in this town when most of you were still in short pants! I don't party all that much any more I'll admit, but when I do, I find it highly overrated. Course each to their own I guess. Different strokes for different folks. :P

I do find singapore boring, very boring!! I agree with everybody else, you can go shopping once, twice but every weekend??? Besides I found Singaporeans extremely boring, they can't keep a smart conversation for more than 10 minutes, actually way before they will ask you how much you pay for your mobile phone or how much you pay for your hand bag... Boring!!

I have been in Singapore for 2 years, after living in Germany for 2 years and in New York for 4 years. Singapore? boring.

I hope this helps!!

Too much to do

Post by mupplet » Thu, 16 Oct 2008 9:28 pm

I don't know about other expats - but i find i don't have enough hours in the day to do all that singapore has to offer. It helps that I have a pretty full-on job, but all my spare time is packed and I don't shop !!

gym, power plate, martial arts, cycling past changi point, swimming, pilates, yoga, eating at hawker centres, massage, facials, scrubs, wine tasting, and world class (and cheap) concerts & theatres, the GP.

I have lived all over the world, and i love singapore. the weather is fab for exercising. I have an update on SISTIC and have been to some amazing ballet, jazz, pop, and theatre. And its all affordable compared to the UK (where I was born)

There are some incredible restaurants, that rival some of the fine dining establishments in Europe. And at the lower level there is more good cheap eating than in europe.

Shopping is the only thing I don't like in Singapore - its too in your face, but I use eBay and have as many jimmy choos & manolo's that a girl can desire. Singapore clothing alteration services are fantastic so everything i have off the peg is no made to measure.

Hi All

I tend to disagree that Singapore is great for a young professional people.
My partner and I in the 25 - 30 age group have been in SIngapore for 2 years and find it completely boring.

There is only so much shopping and eating that one can do. I have been thinking about this alot recently but have yet to come to a conclusion to why this is. I agree that that the more active lifestyle back in my home country has something to do with it. On days that I was bored I use to go for a drive to the beach, ride my horses or go for long walks up the mountain....

I can't wait to go home.

Singapore itself is very very boring. My relatives and guests who stay with me always say that 5 days is more than enough in Singapore cos there isn't much to do. And they're only visiting!

joegymfit, just curious as to what kind of research are you doing? are you planning to make Singapore a more interesting place?

Damn - that's what I need to do - wear short pants like SMS!!!!

Seriously - any part of the world is what YOU make of it. Like it; hate it; love it; despise it; live in it. I'm sure that every expat and local have different views of their experience here. Why do some people take holidays in other countries, then?

Ms. C is overseas at the moment, and missing SIN. I am here, but going elsewhere tomorrow. What do we do but just miss our home here in SIN.

It's not that difficult to get a reasonable attitude.

NZGirl & partner - sorry to hear you feel that way. Have you tried some of the threads here, or maybe asking some people on the threads? There's lots of social activities happening. Some of us might help y'all.

And here I was thinking I was the only bored person here! My husband works here and I am a stay at home mum with 2 children aged 7 and 9. Back home (australia) I was soooooo looking forward to getting my life back when our youngest started school and wanted nothing more than to get back into the workforce but then we ended up here! I am completly bored everyday...and yes there is only so much shopping one can do and when I go to the shops anyhow I get all depressed because it makes me miss Target and Myer!

I dont know why people think singapore is a shopping haven. The shooping here is pretty basic. Unless you want the chainstore brands. There's no department stores, which is bad for guys who want to get everything under one roof. Takishamya has the best department store, but even that is really poor.
It's not that Singapore is boring, it has the makings of a great place for all sorts of activities, it's just that Singaporeans have no imagination, they could do wonders with this place, but they don't make the effort. there's so much coast line that could house some really great club/restaurants that you would get around Europe. Cafe Del Mar is a prime example of how to take an exciting opportunity to Asia and waste it! Wrong management, design, feel, music.
Let's see what happens when the casino resorts are finished - I quite fancy having a Las Vegas style night out once in a while. I hope they get it right, as there's a lot at stake.

To those?who think Singapore is boring...

What do you normally do in YOUR country on weekends or after work? :o
For me it's better to hang around the pool with my kids, that to be stuck at home on cold loooong canadian winter days. Here you can go outside every single day, go to water park, zoo, Sentosa or Bintan ( just 1 hour by ferry). I also miss Canada A LOT, but this has nothing to do with Singapore.
And, plse, answer my q-n

Agreed..but...you can really only got to the Zoo and bird park once, Sentosa a couple of times so what do you do when you've done those? I also see the whole of Sentosa as a wasted opportunity. If the Amercicans or Europeans had got hold of that place it would be miles better. It's got nothing much going for it. The lagoons are a waste of time. Even most of the locals wouldn't swim there. The beaches are rough, the food outlets are the pits - there's not much to do. Underwater world is okay, but if you've been once, you wouldn't go back. On top of that, it's extortionately priced for below average entertainment/food etc.
