PS2 not available in Singapore any more? Where to buy?

Post by elpatre » Mon, 10 Sep 2007 3:12 pm

Hello,

i am currently looking for the Playstation 2 (Hardware) in Singapore but wasnt able to find a store that still sells it so far.

Everywhere ive been to up to today only had the PS3 model, resp only the PS2 games. I was expecting to find the console itself for somewhere around <200SD, and was especially looking for SingStar Bundle or similars...but i didnt expect the console not to be available anymore at all.

Does anybody knows shops which still sell the PS2??
Cheers
Flo

I'd be really surprised if you can't find one in Sim Lim. Ebay also has a few up for sale, some new.

well yeah...sim lim should have something...but its Sim Lim :) Throughout all my friends and working colleagues actually no one would recommend Sim Lim for electronical stuff more expensive then 10 SD :)
I prefer paying 20 SD more, but not getting ripped off, getting sold used stuff as new ones or dodgy stuff when it comes to equipment or guarantees...and these are not prejeduces but unfortunately facts...

You keep asking questions about legality. It is very simple. Is the emulator copyrighted software? Does the company that makes it charge for downloads? If yes to either of these, then if you download it without permission or paying for it, it is illegal. Same as every other kind of intellectual property.

I just learned that Sony will drop the official PS2 price to 100 US$ during the next 2 month. Now i wonder how come that Singapores reliable shops say they dont sell it any more. There is a huge game market, new games still getting released etc etc... Do they really think everybody only wants to get the ueber expensive PS3 any more?

Just bought a new PS2 a month ago, in Jurong, look them up on Ebay, you will find quite a few, also the place in Tanglin had them too (bit pricey though).

Michnlea, how much did you pay when you bought your PS2 a month ago?

I just checked Suntecs shops + Courts, no success again...

ebay.com.sg, of course, which by default shows only local Singapore listings. As I said earlier, if you look at it right now, you'll see a whole bunch of PS2s up for sale.

Ok, just checked some offers, lets see how it works out :)

But besides that i went to Sim Lim yesterday, just to get an idea...generally they all sell the basic package, which is the black slim PS2, with one controller (no memory card, no second controller).

The prices ranged between 180SD and 299SD (without bargaining) accordingly you had to buy the second controller and the memory card as well where the prices ranged between 20SD and 39SD each.

In the end you always (expect the uber expensive ones) ended up at around 260 - 280SD for the console, 2 controller, memory card (WITHOUT bargaining).

cheers

Yep, ended up paying about $260, didn't need second controller etc, already have them. Didn't buy off Ebay but from the shop that advertises there, went direct and bought it at Jurong.

Oh fer chirsakes get over it. If it looks like a PS 2, its in a PS2 box, it plays like a PS 2 > chances are it's a PS2. If you can't recognise a rip off when you see it then maybe new millenium technology is not for you.

All these nay sayers kickin sim lim is just bollards. because they cant be arsed to do the research on what they want. because they have an inherent desire to be conned by slick salesmen at other outlets doesn;t make the goods at sim lim bad now doews it. Be happy...pay attention and move on!!!!

Haha, ok, well, then obviously i was dreaming when going there, all my friends as well, and not to forget all the "dreamers" in this forum reporting not too got experiences with Sim Lim...
If it looks like a PS 2, its in a PS2 box, it plays like a PS 2 > chances are it's a PS2.
Well, sorry, cannot agree.
Just a few points why:
- Selling used PS2 as new PS2
- Selling old "versions" V12 or V13(SCPH-70000) as the newest model V15 (SPCH-77001a and SPCH-77001b)
- Selling NTSC/J consoles as NTSC/UC consoles or claiming consoles as being modified where they arent
- Selling not working memory cards
- Selling rejections as new consoles
- Giving you wrong prices (before taxes) and only mentioning in the end that you need to purchase overprized equipment as well to get the console
- ...and so on...

And it happened not only once that when you confront the nice Salesguys, who are by the way most obviously not interested to make any business with you any way, with the above questions, they either have no clue whatsoever or tell you to walk off because you clearly pointed at some "hot points" the, by you mentioned, not informed client most probably wont ask.

In the end, just have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2 and you will see that "A Playstation can not be the Playstation you are looking for only because its in a Playstation box"

Sorry having destroyed your illusion.
