Working at Apple Computers - experiences

Post by ChicagoMike » Thu, 06 Sep 2007 9:37 am

Hi again everyone. Well, it's been a couple months now since I left Singapore, and yes, I am trying to get back there (yep, I miss it).

So, I've found an opportunity with Apple Computers in Singapore and was hoping that some people in this forum can share their experiences working there. I'm very curious about the office culture and how the office location works for you. If you don't feel comfortable posting, please send me a private message (100% promise to keep them private).

Thanks in advance :) and I hope everyone is doing well.
Mike

Hello Mike - It really depends on the function. Marketing and business development are the places to be in at Apple. Apple world-wide operations on the other hand is much less desirable. Let's just say you work close to investment banking hours for nowhere near the bonuses.

I cannot speak for the Singapore operations, though. I received an offer back in 2006 to be based in Cupertino and had several opportunities to visit, meet the people there and find out first hand how things worked there. Very, very awesome campus, though.

Cheers!

thanks for the comments Makan. sounds like the operations department at Apple has the same working hours as any other large logistics / manufacturing company. no real surprise there about the investment banker's hours.

another thing that i'm curious about: does Apple use their own products for running the business? or does the logistics / office staff use PCs?

That would be a travesty now, wouldn't it? No, I didn't see PCs, not that I recall though I could be wrong.

I do remember that Apple WW Ops was pretty chaotic, everything was run pretty much in a constant state of crisis particularly since I got a firsthand experience of the iPod operations. They didn't have a lot of ERP/SRM systems on the supply side back in 2005. VPs even got their hands dirty with the day-to-day operations. Very, very intense work environment, probably more so that i-banking or consulting.

Sounds like both the administrative department and the technical support here in the UK. :(
