Singapore PR & tax

Postby Splatted » Sat, 18 Aug 2007 3:16 pm

Just a quick question.

For a person with Singapore PR, who is returning back overseas to Australia (or wherever), is there a requirement to pay duel tax for income earned back home?

To elaborate what I mean, if I, say, work in Australia for the next 6 months and retain my Singapore PR, will I be required to pay income tax in Singapore for work performed overseas (in addition to the tax I'll be paying in Australia)?

Thanks in advance

The quick answer is NO.

You are only taxed on your Singapore income. Is it a Singapore company sending your there? Are you going to be paid in Singapore or in Australia? As long as you are working and being paid outside of Singapore you won't have a dual tax liability (unlike in the US though! )

ah, cool. Thanx :D

No, it's an Australian company I'll be working for & paid in my Australian bank account.

The reason I asked was because my wife was at the HDB office today and to cut a long story short, she asked whether my income from overseas could be included when evaluating if we could buy HDB property. The staff member brought up tax for some reason.

I think she may have misheard/misunderstood.
