I would doubt anybody would touch that with a barge pole. I've been grappling with a similar problem with some of my people who have resigned without giving the proper 1 month notice. This gets sticky with IRAS as we are required to withhold 1 month salary (what to do with they give you a week's notice 2 days after their payday!). You, like them, should have a pretty good handle on the tax clearance problem. Anyway, you don't need funds unless you screwed your employer by not giving proper notice. If my staff does not give proper notice I file the IR21 via Fax which could take up to 30 days as you have pointed out. If they give me proper notice I file online where is only takes as maximum of 15 days and usually a lot less than that.

Why isn't your employer using the online submission method? Anyway, you should have been well aware of the tax clearance before you resigned from your position. To me it sounds like you did what some of our employees did. Found another position and used you current employer as a paid visa of sorts until you found what you were looking for. Not very fair to the employer and caused problems for those who follow you as once burned, twice shy as the old saying goes. We now terminate ours with cause as soon as we check with mom as to which of our EP Holders have IPA's currently with MOM if they have been with us for less than 12 months. We cannot find out who the new employer is but we only have to type in your FIN number and it will let us know if there is an outstanding IPA. With that we've got you.

If you were on my situation, you would also think of transferring to another employer. Most of my co workers have moved to another employer for the same reason. Actually my employer have been deducting tax payments since I started, so I was never aware that they would still hold my last pay. I gave them a month notice of my resignation which is proper. But told me just recently that they can't release my last pay due to tax. I called up IRAS but its useless. hmmm now I'm having a problem...

You cannot do anything about the tax clearance. It will happen each time you change employer, no matter how much notice you give.

So, there is nothing wrong with wanting to change jobs if you are not happy, but you must pay your taxes. When I changed employers I did the following, budgeted for the freeze, used my Visa card, and borrowed from a friend by getting some advance rent from them.

You won't get a bank loan, it's too late.

If you do not have family or friends to help you, then you could ask your new employer for an advance. Then you will just have to tough it out. My tax clearance only took two weeks and the balance was released to me.

Perhaps you can negotiate with your landlord to make a delayed payment?

It really pays to be aware of all the laws and clauses before you sign a contract, so you can plan ahead.

Good luck with the new job!

Just what sort of hand-to-mouth existence are you living if your savings aren't enough for one month's rent? Do you realize what will happen to you if you fall sick or get into an accident? Here's hoping your new employer pays a nice fat salary and you're smart enough to save some of it instead of blowing it all away...

Whatever you do stay away from the loan sharks. They love to get in touch with people in desperate situations like you. I know someone who just came out of jail because he couldn't repay the sharks and he is on home detention for a month. Just stay away from them.

Talk to your landlord about deferring rent for a month. If you have been a good tenant so far that's your most realistic option right now, I would think.
