Offer for 4000 SGD, 6 years of experience, reasonable?

Post by cherrygeng » Fri, 10 Aug 2007 12:52 pm

Hello everyone,
I am new in Singapore, and I just moved from China to Singapore.

I am from China, educated in the US. I have working experience in US and China. I have this offer from a German company in Singapore for 4000 SGD a month, for a position in training/doing workshops.

Is this a reasonable offer? How much can I expect in the market with my kind of background and experience? I am very curious.

Thank you in advance for explaining the situation to me!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that my boyfriend is an expat in Singapore, so housing will be paid by the company, and we don't have kids at the moment. What kind of life will I be able to have with 4000 SGD?

Thanks!

You won't be able to save a lot and it also depends on your lifestyle, if you like to drink and eat out every other day of the week, the pubs/ restaurants in SIN are expensive on the other hand the hawker fare is inexpensive but then not everyone likes it.

Good to ask fr some allowance, be it housing or transport...if you're a local and drawing $4k that seems comfortable but as an expat you'll have many costs to factor in, transport, meals, occasional fine dining, household items, personal items..

My personal view on 4K S$? I am actually on that level now, but in Shanghai. I get 20K RMB net per month. Comfortable enough to live in Shanghai, but I am quite familiar with Singapore and I would not move to Singapore for 4K. I am actually in negotiations with a recruitment firm to move down to Singapore and I am sure I will not accept 4K. I might settle for double + housing + med insurance + car allowance + flight tickets.

So consider what you need and compare.
