Disposal of unwanted furniture

Does anyone know how I can get rid of old furniture that is not really suitable for second-hand use or sale? I don't have a car - are there any agencies or council departments that will come and collect and dispose of?

The Salvation Army might. Phone them, they will tell you when they can come and have a look. If they won't take it, you might ask if they can recommend anyone else. There are children's homes which may be interested as well.

Thanks for your help but as I said it's not suitable for use so I was hoping to just dispose of it. I will perhaps give them a call anyway to see if they know of anyone who can dispose of it.
