Post by Samara » Mon, 30 Jul 2007 9:50 pm

We have been offered a 3 year transfer to Singapore.
Salary of Singapore Dollars 125,000 and housing at SD13,000 per month. We are a family of 5 and school fees & medical are also included. Is this a good offer? Thanks!

Hope you don't mind me asking, but you have a peculiar nickname - name of a russian city - are you from there? just curious...

As for the offer, that housing allowance is really good, so I think you should do ok with school/medical fees covered, but it really depends on your lifestyle

Cheers,
Max

No, just Europe - we were offered Russia a while back mind! Thanks for yr answer - all our expenses are paid so we are very lucky. The net salary would be for food, entertainment etc - though we have a fairly low key lifestyle with 3 kids under 5!

you need to pay the income tax for the housing, education, etc. allowance, right?

Let me do a little calculation:

Salary = 125000 + bonus (maybe) = 150000
Housing allowance (assuming you use all) = 156000
3 kids education = 30000

total income for tax = 336000
tax = 48050 (less tax relief)

If I were you, I won't use up my housing allowance (I will just rent a 3~4K condo). It will be a different story if you don't have to pay the tax for the allowance you are entitled.

Agreed...quiet strange offer...

No, we don't pay any tax, the company pays on our behalf.
Thanks for this. Have asked for the housing to be inc in the salary
as advised and will rent cheaper place as suggested. Think we shld
be ok then....thanks.
