Moving with electronics or not?

Post by Almost_In_Singapore » Mon, 30 Jul 2007 9:37 pm

Does anyone have any idea whether I have to pay duty / customs if i bring my DVD player, Microwave along... I am moving from india to singapore. Is it otherwise better to sell it here and buy a new one in Singapore.

Also, what is the cost of -
TV - 21 inch or small TV
DVD Player
Basic small fridge
Microwave
Washing Machine

Do partial furnished apartments come with all this? Or not?

if the items are yours and second hand ( ie you've owned them for a while) they can be considered youe household therefore may be considered tax free.
This may not be the case if you hand carry them on a plane. i'm talking about if you import them after you have arrived and have an emplyment pass ( ie proof of work and residing here)

To be honest with the things you've listed you'd be beter off buying new or second hand here and not worrying about the freight and import handling costs.

Take a look on ebay.com.sg or yahoo.com.sg ( auctions) this is a very small island so there's little chance of being ripped off with local buys on online auctions

Good luck

many places sells electronic, eg courts.com.sg, harvey norman, mustafa. There are some trading shops in little india that sells cheaply, i think it is without warranty. You could easily buy electronic within a 5km range fr wherever u stay.
