Beginning school late - Tutor or other options

Post by barbaraus » Fri, 27 Jul 2007 3:52 am

Hi,
I am moving to Singapore 10th of September 2007, 4 weeks after school will have started. My children will be attending ERIS. Has anybody had a similar experience or plan to have one this year? What do people generally do to help the kids "catch up". My little one is 6 yrs old so I'm not too worried as there will not be too much to catch up on. My older one is 14 and I'm worried about her.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Barbara

My son is also starting at ERIS on 14 Aug but we have been in Singapore for 1 month and he will have missed one term by the time he starts. He has brought his textbooks from previous school and does math, science and reads every day plus some exercise. There are a number of tutoring business' here which you could send your daughter to in the afternoon or employ a tutor to come over in the afternoon to your home. If you google tutor you will find many agencies.
James is starting in Year 9 is your daughter also?
Cheers
Sue

Thanks Sue for your reply to my post.
My daughter will be in Year 10.
I am from US, so not familiar with this school system. She would
have been going to 9th grade in US.
I could not get her into SAS at short notice. The other school with American curriculum is ICS. I'm thinking of switching there rather than ERIS so as not to introduce such a big change.. Its so difficult to make such decisions remotely without knowing anybody with experience in the different schools.
What do you mean by "he will have missed one term" ? Isn't the August term, the first term?

Thanks again,
Barbara
(apologies if this is a duplicate posting. I replied, but my reply disappeared.. I'm new to this..)
