International school jobs

Post by mummachick » Sat, 07 Jul 2007 9:47 am

We are thinking of a Singapore adventure. My husband is a qualified high school history teacher who would be looking to teach at one of the International Schools in Singapore (he currently teachs at a private school in Oz now). We have a two year old and a couple of mutts to support.

Does anyone know what the likely salary range is for expat teachers? I notice that our local papers here are always advertising jobs in Singapore and was wondering if the move would be worth it financially, i.e. could he support all of us (we live pretty frugally as it is, not big drinkers, smokers etc) on a teachers salary? (They advertise a lot, but the actually package is never revealed!)

To let you know where we are coming from, are thinking of moving as a lifestyle change rather than to make truckloads of cash somewhere hot. We have visited a couple of times in the past few years, have friends there who have recently returned in Australia and can cope with the weather (most of the time).

Also, as a dependent, can I work part-time? Currently I am stay at home mum, but usually work as a Communication Manager for large scale IT implementations and would really like the international exposure and well as the time away from "Hairy Maclary from Donaldsons Dairy"..
