PR validity

Post by question » Fri, 06 Jul 2007 5:08 pm

Hi

Is the PR invalid if we leave singapore for more than 6 months ?
Is there a way to inform the authorities that we leave for 1 year and come back , without letting the PR become invalid ?

Regards

PR only becomes invalid when your re-entry permit expires (5 year renewals). If you are outside of the country when that happens it will depend on how long you were out and why. It is possible to come back in with an expired re-entry permit but you will have to pay a fine of I think $100. If you have been out of the country for several years though and it has expired, you may have problems renewing it even if you are here before it expires. Has something to do with intent I believe. So if you are like a lot of people from the subcontinent to tend to try to collect PR status from several countries you could eventually get burned.
