Comparing car prices?

Post by jezzman » Thu, 05 Jul 2007 3:44 pm

Hi,

We're thinking about buying a Skoda Octavia once we get to Singapore in January. I've been looking at this webpage and have found a price of app SGD 60,000.

http://www.oneshift.com/pdb/cdr.php?pid ... %26aso%3D0

We've also been looking at the Toyota Corolla Altis and the price of that car is SGD 62,000.

http://www.oneshift.com/pdb/cdr.php?pid ... %26aso%3D0

And now to my questions :)

Are those prices including or excluding the COE? Are there other costs than the COE when we buy a new car?

We're going to be living in Singapore for 3 years, which of the cars above would be the easiest to sell used, as well as getting the best price for when sold (lowest write off)...?

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi,

You can check up this site too.

www.sgcarmart.com

If you are looking at a fuel economical car with higher resale value, you can consider Toyota....

Cheers...

The prices you have appear to include the 10-yr CoE but maybe expect a little +/- as time passes.

With regards which to get, up to you. I prefer the Skoda only because it is built with a lot of the same components as the VW and there are quite a few of the taxis that are these Octavia so getting spares and service should be relatively easy as well, outside of Skoda i mean.

Personally, i never buy new. The depreciation in the first year is the worst so consider picking one up second hand that's maybe just a year or two old, scan through sgcarmart, which is a better site. More so if you know you're only here for three years so limit your losses/spending by removing the year with the largest price drop.

I have the impression that there's not many Skoda's around in Singapore. Just tried to do the sqcarmart search for Skoda and it came our with 0 hits.. :)

The prices on sqcarmart are they including COE?

It's a bit confusing looking at cars in Spore when you're brand new to the system of buying :)

98% of the prices on sgcarmart come inclusive of CoE, whether new or used. If the car is really getting old, like 7-8 years etc. you might then start seeing adverts for cars that already include a new CoE lasting a further 10-yrs.

You are right though, i didn't see any used Skoda for sale but could this be that owners are happy with them, or none were ever sold privately, only to taxi companies? Hmmmm......

You know you can find a 2-yr old "Mazda3 Luxury" with less than 15k kms on the clock for less than $54k :o , for example? Or a 1-yr old Nissan Latio with less than 13k kms on the clock for only a little more money. I wouldn't be rushing to buy a new car.
