Depends ... real estate has gone through the roof. 2 yrs ago, 130K would be great because rent would be $2K at a great place. Now you can expect to pay double of that. So all of a sudden, 130K doesn't seem that much. Of course, if you don't care so much about buying branded watches, splurging on expensive restaurants and vacating in Europe every year, then yes, 130 is still not bad here in Singapore.

Most restaurants in Singapore are real cheap - but against depends where you're coming from. Compared to the US, it is cheap.

Bottom life - with 130 you can live and save comfortably, but cannot a lot of luxuries ...

I am assuming you mean 130k GBP and not 130k SGD ..in which case, your money will go a lot further in singapore then anywhere else . Sure rents has gone up and your probably looking at around 5000 SGD per month for something family sized these days. on That salary, anmd low tax, you got plenty .

your an actuary on 130k SGD..where you go wrong ?
I'd ask for a payrise ...if your qualified your worth a lot more than that i would have thought. i did an actuarial science degree in london..didnt get into the field, but even 13 years ago when i graduated companies were offering about 25kGBP ( 75k SGD) .

Well 11k SGD a month at 15% tax rate is still pretty good and you will be able to aford a better quality of life than the uk .
When people talk about high rents...yes they are high , but then if you stayed in a 1000sq ft apartment with a swimming pool and gym, near centre of town..it would cost you a lot in london too !

When I meant 130k I meant in SGD.
Is there anyone who could give me reference of an actuary working in Singapore. I would like to discuss and find out the market rate. Based on the replies in this forum, I feel Iam being underpaid.

Hi, are you doing actuary in an insurance company or in a bank, or others? insurance company generally pay a lower monthly salary to their staff, but they usually have a 2-3 months fixed bonus. banks, generally go on a 12-months package (no fixed bonus), therefore, with simple mathematics, you can figure out that the salary in a bank might appear to be higher, but in actual value, might not be so.

variable bonus, regardless in insurance company/banks, is dependent on the institution's performance, of course. foreign banks (european/us banks) generally pay better bonuses than locals banks.

you can pm me if you need more information. i know enough people in both ins & banks to know some sensitive information.
