Job Query-Salary

I am currently looking into a Senior Manager role in a professional services firm.
They have indicated a salary of SG$130,000 (plus health and bonus).
I am married with 2 kids under the age of 2. My wife will not work.

It looks like it is about $9,500 net per month after tax.

Would that be sufficient to rent a 2 bedroom apartment (close to the city), pay living costs and still save some money?

thanks

I guess that amount would be easily enough. Of course it depends on your way of living too. If you always go out fancy restaurants and choose a very expensive condo, nothing will be left.

Starting from 3k, you can find convenient condos near MRT stations. If you won't have a car, being close to an MRT solves your travelling problem. Just to give you an example from myself. My office is in Tanjong Pagar and my condo is located in Clementi. My condo is 8 mins walk to MRT station and my whole journey doesn't exceed 35 mins from condo to office. If this time or a little bit more is acceptable in your standards, you don't need to live very close to city and can save some money from condo rent. In fact this will be the major cost.

As your children are small, you don't need to think about education costs yet. Staying in a condo wil also help your wife meet with other expat wives and socialize.

Your salary package sounds good, but your comfort here will depend on how much you want to save out of it.

your salary is able to allow ur family to live a comfy life in Singapore provided that you dont splurge. Renting an apartment close to the city definately means that rental rates will be higher. Also, the property market is booming right now so expect even higher rates. My advise is get one close to the mrt station like what muratkorman mentioned if you are not driving. Singapore public transport system is efficient and convenient so you can definately rely on it to get u to work on time. save some on rental that way.

by the way, living cost here is not high IMO ( GST @ 7% frm july onwards).

I am pretty much in the same boat as you Wow. Salary around 125k two kids aged 9 months and 2.5yrs so need to think about schooling a bit sooner. We are looking for a 3 bed condo, can I ask why are you only going for 2 bed? we were not planning to get a car but be close to MRT and school...
