What furniture should we bring?

Post by hlsmcgrath » Fri, 15 Jun 2007 9:01 pm

I'm new to this site, but have found the info useful. My husband is being relocated to Singapore and we will be moving over in September (from NJ in the USA). We have a 3 and 4 year old.

My first question relates to furniture. What should we bring or leave behind? We have some cherrywood furniture that I'm afraid will not survive int he humiduty. What about foam and fabric couches? What kind of furniture holds up best?

Second question... What about schools? Having not visited any yet, I'm leaning towards ISS and Chatsworth for both kids. Any feedback? We really want the kids to get a good education and an international/multi-cultural experience. How soon should we apply and should we apply before we move?

I appreciate your help!
Thanks!

If you are looking at great multicutural experince, local schools can be really attractive. Singapore is also renowned for its excellent education curriculum. (suprisingly local Secondary Maths Textbooks were used in some of the United States Colleges and Universities!!) Then again, looking at it from another angle, it poses some stress to the students.

Furnitures... Well, if you do install air conditioning, and stay at higher floors, it shudnt be a problem. But i won't recommend bringing it over, it will be a greater hassle if you bring it over and i doesnt suit the climate and sending it back again can be a big problem.

Shopping at local IKEA will solve most problems =)
