moving from Toronto

Post by igrok24 » Fri, 15 Jun 2007 1:18 am

Hi
We are moving to Singapore from Toronto in July. Our middle son goes to French immersion school here. He will be in grade 4 for the next school year. I just wonder if they will put him in ESL program in Singapore( we are planning one of the International Schools). Is there any kind of testing? English is his first language, but as I said nothig has been taught in English at school so far ( they start English from grade 4). Thanks for any advice:))

Why don't you phone a couple of the schools and inquire? Particularly the Canadian school who have used the Ontario curriculum for some time (though they are moving to use the IB PYP scope and sequence now).

There are a lot of us Canucks here in Singapore. Check out the Canadians in Singapore website and you'll find all kinds of people willing to help.

You can PM me if you like. I'm from NB though, so no 'a-boot' jokes, eh?

most schools have a long waiting list by now .. the Canadian School is full from what i heard .. maybe you can try E R International School .. they are a good school and still have a few vacancies. my colleague has a daughter there.

There is a new branch of the CIS on the east coast, which offers french as a second language. Last check at grade 4 there was space there, but as with all International Schools be fast. We are relocating from NS, our boys were in french school, but did a couple of years in english prior to that. Kids are sponges, wouldn't worry about it. Will take a couple of months, hard work and your at par. Good luck

Have you considered the French School (Lycee Francaise de Singapour)? Normally taught in french but I heard they are opening a bilingual french/english stream after summer.
