Long Holiday?

Post by christoscy » Thu, 14 Jun 2007 7:01 pm

Hi all

Some advice please,i came to Singapore from Europe early in April, i stayed on a Social Pass for about 50 days, i then went to Malysia for a week and returned late last month.
On arrival i got the usuall 30 day pass, and i have to fly from Singapore to go on a project on the 1st week of July.
Since my pass will expire on the 28th i went to the Immigration for an extension with a local sponsor.
To my suprise, i was told that it s not possible to get an extension after having been in Asia for 3 months and i have to leave the country by the 28th and go home
Would it be possible to travel to Malaysia by bus and return the next day and get 15 days Visa?which is what i need to catch my flight back to work, or is there a possibility trhat i might be refused entry?

Thanks
I ll try been nicer if you try been smarter!!!

Though I do not know much about your passport's allowances, let me put in my 10c.

I assume that you are using the Visa on arrival facility, which I feel has time restrictions. When you procure your visa by applying in Singapore high comm in your country, the High comm has your complete detail as to yourself and the reasons for your visit.

A visa chopped by High Comm outside singapore has a fairly larger period say 6 months to 1 year or more, using which one can re-enter as many times.

What you can probably try out is whether you can pull out a Visa in your country of origin. You can alternatively go to KL and apply for a visa there in the high-comm. I did that once in Bangkok, when my EP expired there and I applied for a visa in High comm there, as my country passport was not eligible for "visa on arrival".

If left with no choice, you can always give it a try by having a confirmed ticket on hand, upon return to Singapore. But best would be to have a back plan to fly out of Malaysia to your country, just in case.

Cheers!!!

Thanks Shan

I do get a visa on arriva since i have a European passport,in fact i ve been working around asia for the past year and a half and returning to Singapore for time off without ever having this proplem.
I was told by the immigration officer this morning that i am not allowed to stay in Asia for longer than 3 months without returning to my country. In fact i ve been in asia for 14 months before without going home.
I think i just bumped on an Immigration officer that was having a bad day,i just have to find a way around it. I asked if i can get out of the country by land and return with a 15 day visa, she told me she cannot encourage that. But i guess she can t forbit it either.

Thanks again for your advice Shan
