SG v AU - my $$$ situation...

Post by honest johnny » Wed, 13 Jun 2007 8:24 am

Hi all,

I've been offered a chance to come to SG - and have a counter-offer to stay here in AU. I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy the SG lifestyle, so I guess my decision is goingto come down to $$...

My situation:
CURRENT: Live in Sydney (city), single, earn AU$115k
OFFERED (1): SG$160k to work in SG
OFFERED (2): Move to Brisbane, AU$115k PLUS they pay my rent

I was just curious what people would do in my situation. I'm only a couple of years out of Uni, so happy to live in very modest surrounds.

Thanks for your help guys!

A couple of years International Exposure always looks good on a Curriculum Vitaé.

I would take Singapore. Brisbane's awful, imho.

Oh yes, and there's the small issue of the experience on the resume... It's probably better move in the long run.

AUD$115K x 1.3 (approx current exchange rate) = SGD$149.5k.

Few things to note:
- Not sure about the rental rates in Brisbane, but singapore rental rates is going up. Read the forum and you will have a rough idea about the rates you might need to pay. My fren is paying $2.4K for a 1 bedroom apartment next to Kembagan MRT (in the east area) and she is complaining because her 2-bedroom apartment in melbourne cost a lot lower.
- Tax rates in Singapore is alot lower than Aust.
- If you are from Sydney, wont you be bored to death in Brisbane??? I enjoy my vacation in brisbane and gold coast, but to work and live there... i will think twice.

My few cents worth...
