Hello!
Myself, my husband and son are due to move to Singapore shortly. Our big bone of contention though is what to do with our dog! She is a 2 year old collie cross and unfortunately suffers from the typical collie trait of being incredibly stranger nervous.
Do dogs need to be quarantined if they are arriving from the UK and how easy is it to find accomodation that allows a collie sized doggie resident?
There isnt anybody we can leave her with really in the UK and due to her nervous disposition wouldnt be able to be rehomed so our only option really is to bring her. I just need to know how easy that is to do! And what the cost would involve!
Many thanks and kind regards,
Mrs T

While I've never had a dog imported as I've always given strays a home (here in Singapore anyway). You can start with the following link from my links page at the bottom of this post:
AVA - Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority
You may find some of the other links useful as well regarding Vets, SPCA, etc.

Bringing your dog to Singapore
Hi Mrs T.
We are also looking to move to Singapore in the near future. I am really concerned about our two-year-old labrador.... questions like, will she be happy in the climate? Will I be able to meet her exercise needs. At the moment she is used to running wild in fields near our home in the North East of England. My children adore her and as such she is a part of our family. However, I want to do what's best for her. Please share any insight you can.
Thanks.

Although I have never kept a dog myself I think the answer is no; anybody who keeps a dog here in the UK knows full well how their animal responds to the heat; doesn't want to know. Things would be without doubt be worse in Singapore where the temperature is in the 80's and very humid the vast majority of the time and little cooler in the evening.Gomez wrote: will she be happy in the climate? Kinder to leave 'cool climate' dogs where they are.
i too am moving to singapore soon (two months...can't wait!) with my wife and two dogs, from doha, qatar. our dogs came to doha with us from australia.
re - the heat etc...it gets very hot here in doha (55 deg C plus, very high humidity)...not a problem for our dogs as they stay inside in aircon most of the time, and are extremely innactive. however, we have friends here with dogs ranging from small dogs like ours, to labradors, golden retrievers etc...all seem to do OK in the heat...obviously not much walking is done during the daytime!
re - quarantine, relocation etc...there are some very good links on this site. also, look into professional pet relocators (at your country of departure and in Singapore)...they are a good help...we are using 'Singapore Pet Movers' for the singapore end. can't vouch for them yet, but fingers crossed.
re - cost etc...just close your eyes, get out your credit card, and do it! if its worth it its worth it. i just wish our dogs got frequent flier miles!!!!
good luck with your (possible?) dog shifts gomez and mrs T...i know the stress!!! i'm sure i don't need to tell you this, but just keep your dogs welfare as top priority and you'll make the right decision re moving them etc.
by the way, to whom it may concern, this website and forum is fantastic...a brilliant resource.
we are all looking forward to life in singapore!!
