HDB Question

Post by christoscy » Sat, 09 Jun 2007 10:04 am

Hi all

I have a question about HDB regulations, here is the case:
I am renting a room in an HDB appartment for the past 2 years. I am sharing the appartment with 2 other people. I do not have an Employment Pass as i don 't work here, i just come in Singapore for 30-60 days in between contracts on a Social Pass.
We recently changed appartments. I now need a confirmation from HDB that i reside in my current address. After calling the agency who got us this place(and made a good cut out of it) i was told that actually i am not allowed to be registered in HDB as a tenand as i don't have an EP. Is this true? And when i asked what is my status then he said i am registered as i guest but he couldn t answer were i am registered at.
Do you think there is a way of getting a confirmation of address from a recognised authirity in this case??

Thanks,
I ll try been nicer if you try been smarter!!!

HDB can give you certificate only if you have rented from them directly. Looks like you have stayed in a property Leased by some one else. So the lessee can give you a cert, that you had a Paying Guest agreement. As per rules, the Lessee cannot rent it out to you, so he won't be able to declare you as a tenant.

Now that you have moved out, nothing much can be done. Moreover you are on visit pass and none can contract you for tenancy.

So all depends who is asking for this proof, for you can also take certificates from other flatmates who shared the apartment with you for proof.

Thanks for that

To clarify things,we moved into a new appartment last month with the same people i was sharing a flat previously. The whole flat is rented by one of my flatmates, and i just have a deal directy with her,so i do pay rent even for the 8-9 months a year when i am abroad working.
I will draft a confirmation from the lessee but i am afraid it won't stand as it is to be used in an embassy as a proof of address thus needs to be co-signed by a verifying authority.

Thanks again

I am afraid embassy would accept that as proof of stay, as your contract is a paying guest agreement which someone can pull out even now on knowing the requirement.

In case you have been remitting your rent thru bank, probably it can be used for further substantiate. moreover, just paying rent is no proof of residence. You can probably furnish a compilation of your entry & exit dates in & out of Singapore and add up the no. of days, to prove your genuinity.

Else I think you can't do much.

Cheers!!!
