If I have coins, I have them in my pocket and I spend them. If I have more than say $5, shops are usually happy to swap for banknotes. We don't use vending machines except when we need bread in an emergency situation. Now if they had beer machines like in Tokyo it might be a different matter :)

Don't know about card transactions. Anything under say $100 I do in cash. My ATM card is just that. Bigger transactions go on either the DR or CR cards.

I don't get the bit about carbon footprints. The shop is next door and I'm going there (on foot) with coins on me, or without.

A more persuasive (IMHO) long-term saving scheme, is to live like you never get a pay-rise. Save/invest the increment from any you do get. That can really add up over the years.

I don't reckon everybody lives next door to a shop and I doubt seriously whether long-term savings shcemes have anything to do with coins seeing you are espousing not saving them. Off tangent a bit?

I know a Miss Zhou from China who may have some coins she'd like to trade... Unless you're from the shop in Sim Lim?

I have a bunch of GBP which is too old to cash in at the money exchange, but if I were to visit the UK I could most likely use.

But no trips to there anytime soon.

Same thing with some even older Won.

Wow, I'm surprised this thread has been dragged up again.

But for those that want to get rid of coins, my local Cheers takes as many coins as I'm willing to carry to them.

Do them a favor and sort them first into their denominations, in $5 bags for smaller coins, and $10 bags for 50c and $1 coins.

Even after I've run out of coins, they still regularly ask me if I have more when I come in to shop.

Ask them first before carrying kg's of coins into their store to make sure they're ok with it. The one I visit is at KTPH.

Be prepared to wait while they count it.

Hi all,

Note :: Please read my latest post regarding coin exchange if you know how to find.

Many thanks to all of you for being a coin exchange partner.

i need coins ! You need dollar notes !
No charges for you and me.
All denominations except 5 cent coins.

Banks charges you a fee. Higher fee charges for more coins deposit into banks.

As I am working and staying near Bugis, would prefer to meet at Bugis area.

FYI, from past experience, lots of coin exchangers like to do exchange during year end, especially during December. So the queue will stretch from December to end of January the following year. So , you know when to avoid peak exchange.
