Malaysian passport renewal for minor

Post by goatstudio » Wed, 06 Jun 2007 9:45 pm

Dear all who are Malaysian,

I have a complicated case over here. Things goes like this, I applied Singapore Citizen before my child was borned.

During waiting for the citizenship application to approve, my son borned before the application was approved, hence I applied Malaysia Nationality for him, as we need to register the baby within 1 month.

Now the problem is, after my son become Malaysia citizen, and Singapore ICA approved my application to become SG citizen.

According to the rule stated in ICA, I can't simply apply SG citizen for my son like that since he already become a Malaysian.

Hence I would like to ask, if I would like to renew the passport for my son, and I am not a Malaysian anymore, will that be a problem? Anyone experiance that before?

Thanks...

regards,
vic

You may have to adopt him here in Singapore. This is what I've heard but I cannot verify this. A call or trip to ICA at Kallang to speak with an Officer (not a line clerk) would probably net you a more accurate reply.

Thanks for the advice, I definitely will do that. I under estimated the time for the citizenship to approve.

To anyone went through this process,

For Grant of citizenship by descent, the ICA website only mentioned can apply for child born oversea.
Nothing mention about child born in SG before the mother get the citizenship approval.
Is the child need to go through PR application before Singapore citizenship application or can directly apply for Singapore citizenship by descent?

Hi! goatstudio, have you managed to apply SG citizen for your son?

I will answer you first before I reply to goatstudio.
Child born in SG of a foreigner who is allowed to give birth here by ICA is given 33 days to register child citizenship at the parent foreign's embassy. Then on parent need to apply for child LTSVP to stay in SG or DP
If parent is applying SG Citizenship , the parent will have in their possession a SG PR hence when the child is born the child can either attain foreign PP then on apply LTSVP or SG citizenship. This will take effect too if parent attain PR under PTS scheme

When you apply for SG citizenship you are a SGPR hence your son is a Sger if you choose to. You gave birth in SG yes ?
You should have taken up LTSVP for the child here then on SG PR in the future.
Yes, ICA is right as the child need to have LTSVP pass then on PR sponsor under family ties. There will be no direct route to SG citizenship
Since the child BC states you are the parent, renewing child PP is not an issue. Best to get it done in JB or KL
Did you this or not ?
