prescription needed for contact lenses?

Post by smrglivac » Thu, 31 May 2007 8:27 am

Hi everyone,

I'll be moving to Singapore in a few weeks, and I was wondering if you can easily obtain 1-Day Acuvue disposable contact lenses. Do I need an actual prescription from an optometrist (like they require in the US) or can I just buy the correct strength since I know my prescription already? Also, if a prescription is needed does it have to be from within the last year?

(For anyone who doesn't know, the optometrists in America force you to get a new prescription (requiring an expensive checkup at the optometrist) each year in order to purchase new contact lenses. Quite a racket!)

Thanks for your help.

No questions asked at most shops, but taking along your old prescription won't hurt.

i came across some shops requiring you to do an eye checkup with them at no charge. subsequently there's no need to do so as they would have your records.

In Singapore, you can easily obtain 1-Day Acuvue disposable contact lenses at any shop.

But it is better to have a free screening at the shop as your degree may change as time go by.

If they do not have the stock, they will help you to order without additional charges.

Since now is the great spore sales, you may be getting it at a cheaper rate

That sounds great. I don't mind getting a checkup, as long as it's free! Sounds like it's much easier to get contacts than in the US.

Thanks for all the info.

yup, u don't have to worry that u can't get the contact lense in Spore. I used to be a Johnson and Johnson's user but will be changing to the Biomedic soonas it is less dry and more comforable to the eye.

If you wanted to get a cheaper price of the contact lenses, you can purchases it at Johor Bahru, Malaysia. You can get all the brands there.
