Singapore Citizenship

Post by pigeon » Sun, 27 May 2007 11:55 pm

Hi guys,

I have recently started work here in Singapore, and will be applying for my PR soon. My wife has been working here for past 5 years and is already a PR. We are both Malaysian, and have a 2 year old daughter. I'm in a dilemma now as recently, the Singapore government has announced on reduction in subsidy for childcare service for PR... plus PR has to pay more in buying HDB flat.

My wife is thinking of converting her citizenship to a Singaporean. What do you guys think? Is it advisable or is there much advantage to be a Singapore citizen? We'll prob stay here for the next 5-10 years, but after that, still unsure...

Confused

Halo, I'm in the same situation with pigeon, except I'm the girl and I'm going to get marry soon with my boy friend who is holding work permit. My PR will expire next year and we are considering whether shld I apply citizenship and my bf hold PR. Is this a better option than both person holding PR?

Advantages if I become Singaporean:
1. We can buy new flat and get subsidy from government
2. Still can retire in Malaysia when we are old. (right?)
3. Can take money like GST relief package, etc etc

Disadvantage
1. Need to stay here for long, if we go back to Malaysia together my status will be a foreigner and probably need to apply PR in Malaysia. (possible?)

Can somebody enlighten me?
