Laptop HD

Post by Asdracles » Thu, 24 May 2007 4:13 pm

Hi everybody.... This is half technical / half local question....

My previous laptop is dead  Really is the power supply. I have bought a couple of adaptors, and both them were wrong after a few days. Checking the laptop in another shop, was clear that something was wrong with the power supply.

I have already another laptop, but I would like to recover the information in my previous Hard Disk.

I would like to ask you about any computer shop in SG, trustly enough, for making a external HD from my previous HD, or perhaps where they can borrow me a battery for having time enough to transfer files to a new HD.

By the way, my previous laptop was an ACER Aspire 1350

Thanks in advance

You only need an adaptor to plug your existing HD into, then you plug into USB socket.

Most computer supply companies should have them and they'll be able to switch your HD from primary to slave etc. all while you are there and you look over their shoulder.

You can then take it home, transfer the files you need etc. and keep it as a backup.

Any suggestion? ACER official provider will be easier? Any big repair shopping? Will try to go Funan this evening. Any suggested place there?

Thanks

Last summer while visiting Singaporemy Laptop HD crashed, and need to get a recovery done while I was here. Lot's of places at Sim Lim upper levels doing that kind of services. Well I needed to do HD recovery in a lab, so it took them from saturday afternoon until tuesday morning (and could only recover about 80% data). Still got the crashed HD back but wasn't ready to do the expensive option back home. But your case sound easier so should not take too long to do it.

I personally think simlim is much better than it's reputation. I think they have improved a lot, and they do not hassle so much anymore, that they used to 5 years ago I first went there.

My HD was perfect, only laptop was wrong, so what I wanted to do is what ScoobyDoes wrote about.

Was in one shop in Funan, incredible cheap. Conectors, the box for the HD, and the work for only 10 dollars. Now I have a very slim and nice external HD. However the most important is that I have again all the data :D
