starting a food bussiness...

Post by aikido » Mon, 21 May 2007 8:52 pm

greetings to all.

I'm married to a singaporean and have 2 children,we live overses for more than 5 years and we are planning to settle back in singapore mostly for the childrens sake.We plann to start a food bussiness to supposrt ourselves and we already have the ideas in mind and the financial sources.
But i really am not sure which way for me is best since i'm a not a singapore permanent resident:should i get an entre pass or an employment pass?
i have been told that since my wife is a singaporean it is easier for me to be a co owner(with my wife as the owner) and get the employment pass, is this true?
please elaborate which ways are easier and better?
your answers and suggestions are highly appreciated.

thank you in advance.

OK... you've got it wrong and you are pardoned!

An Entrepass is issued to those starting their own business.
An employment pass (P1, P2, S) is issued to those coming over for professional or skilled jobs.
A work permit is issued for jobs like construction worker.
A foreign domestic worker pass is issued for maids, home care, etc.

Hi all
thank you strong eagle for your points mentioned, i appreciatte it, but honestly i was hopping to get something more specific in my case.
my wife is singaporean and i'm not a PR.we want to settle in Sg and we plann to open some bussiness, we are more on food bussiness....
For an entre pass i undeersood the matter.
I've been told its better to register the bussiness in my wifes name since she is from Sg, in this case being a Co owner or co director does it secure me an employment pass or anything similar ? which will enable me to stay with my family.
i'm hopping to recieve from anyone who has similar experiences and those who are aware of such situations....
all replies are wellcomed and most appreciatted.
hope to hear fro all of you asap.

with my best regards.

Hi, you can apply for an entrepass easily by submitting a business plan as per the guidelines on Ministry of manpower website. I did so when moving to Singapore and was able to get an Entrepass (requring renewal after 1st year) based on a pretty thrown together business plan. It's very cheap and didnt require any substantiation of the projections. I think it helps if you can show past experience or an existing business overseas in the relevant industry.
