Anyone wanna do dragon boating?

Post by Seppy » Mon, 21 May 2007 6:28 pm

Hi guys,

The Gaelic Dragons (Irish) are looking for new recruits to join the team. All nationalities welcome.

There's a pretty big community of dragon boaters here. It's a great sport to be involved in. Gives you a great workout, meet loads of new friends, and there's always a beer afterwards.

We just took part in the UOB Dragon Tug competition yesterday. It was great fun.

We've also just taken delivery of our new boat. We'll be having a launch party some time soon.

Check out http://www.gaelicdragons.org for more details.

Let me know.

Cheers,
Declan

Dragon Boating

Post by beachbum48 » Sun, 27 May 2007 10:42 pm

Hey Declan
Do you accept "fast learning" novices? Do you have different crews for different age groups? Can you tell me where and when you meet for training??
Thanks

Hey Beachbum,

We accept anyone who's willing to give it a go. Fast learning is great - you should be able to pick it up pretty quick.

There are no separate age groups but for races there are different categories - men, women, mixed and open.

Training is on Tuesdays and Saturdays at Kallang Riverside Park on Stadium Road (The park is on both sides of the river so make sure you are on the Stadium Rd side). Kallang MRT is the nearest station and it's about a 5 minute walk from there.
On Saturdays we meet for training before 3:30.
On Tuesdays we meet for training at 7pm.

I've sent you a pm with my email address and phone no so you can contact me directly.

Riversandlakes - I've been trying to get someone to fix that for ages!

MF,

You are welcome to join. Most of the team are expats who travel and so quite often they can't attend every training session. All we ask is that you come along to training as often as you can.

Mavrik,

It is possible to only attend Tuesday training although races only ever happen on Saturdays and Sundays - usually a race meeting lasts for 2 days so you could still join for the Sunday races. Do you play volleyball for a team or for fun?

I will try and come out for some training on Tuesday nights beginning in a few weeks time. I am leaving tomorrow morning on a cycle tour of Malaysia for a week or two. Volleyball is just a rec thing, so it wont be a big deal to miss one weekend for a race. I'm looking forward to getting out there and throwing down some paddles.
