Help!!!

Post by angelleo » Sat, 05 May 2007 3:30 pm

Hi gals,

I always have a dream of becoming a stewardess.
Unfortunately my nationality pose as a greatest barrier from my dream.

I am from Myanmar and currently got a PR in Singapore.I have been in singapore since I am in Sec 1.

Went for SIA but was told that they do not hire Myanmat nataionality.

Please kindly advice if you have any Burmese friends who are working in ant airline?
Or other airlines that accepting Myanamar nationality.

Thank you all so so much.
regards,
Angel

In the UK this would be racial discrimination which is illegal, maybe you should post this in the general discussions as well as here.

Plavt,

It's a sad state of affairs here as the Ministry of Manpower, while condemning discrimination, will not enact any laws against same as has been done in the US, UK and Aus/NZ.

The most they will say is you "shouldn't" discriminate. They don't say you "cannot" and if you are proven to have been doing so we will whatever. Therefore, Singapore, in this regard will always remain a third world country with a first world economy & infrastructure.

Currently, if you are a Myanmar national you not only have a difficult time getting out of Myanmar's military grip., you are also at the mercy of the local myanmar mafia (otherwise known as the myanmar consulate) which is apparently run by not much better than thugs (Apparently the Nationals who have exit permits to come to Singapore have to not only pay Myanmar Income Taxes (fair enough) but also have to pay tribute (for lack of a less crude word) to the local Myanmar consulate officers. I cannot prove this but as I have 23 Myanmar Engineers on my payroll, I don't have any real reason to doubt them either. Looking at the Junta's history, it makes sense as they are thugs anyway. Currently, they are having problems with ASEAN as the other members are starting to get fed up with their constant backpeddling.

Thank you all for the reply..

Sadly, my PR status does not carry me further than giving me a legal right to stay and work in singapore.

Probably this is the punishment we-the burmese citizens have to bear just becaused we were happened to be born there.

Company may have thousands and one reason to reject us for being a Burmese Nationality but for this one issue, i only have one thought..
"It is not fair"

am wondering did they really say they dun accept u cos of ur nationality? did u go for the walk in in April 21-22? I think that particular walk in was meant for those who has SG/ Malaysian citizenship, it was stated clearly in their Ad, so even thou ur a PR in SG, it doesn't give ya SG citizenship and that's why.

I think they will say the same thing to me because i m a HK citizen, tat's y i dun even bother to go for e walk in.............

This is open to question, you may not be aware of it but SIA has a number of pilots who hold PR status. The last time I looked 60% of the airline's technical crew were foreign nationals. Although I do not know if there is different criteria for cabin crew but I vaguely remember a PR on this forum applying for such a position.

ya..i also heard that they do hire foreigners..
I walk in interview on 21st April, and that was what i was being told.
But i was informed that they do hire foreigners even when they are not PR status or whatever.
So i go and try my luck maybe who knows they do accpet Burmese but a PR.

But if there is special interview for foreigners I still want to give it a try.
oh u also wanted to go for the interview ah?
Have you try other Airline as well?

Angel
