Looking for a business-related IT job in Singapore

Post by lchk » Fri, 04 May 2007 2:53 am

Hello everyone,

I am a Malaysian who is currently looking for an IT job which encompasses the following scope of work - presales, bid management or business development. Reason being that I feel Singapore provides a better platform for me to expand my career on a regional basis.

I have worked for 11 years in the IT industry with experience in presales, business development, bid management and to a lesser extent, project management and working as an IT business analyst. My primary industry domain is in the banking/finance sector particularly for channels and managed services.

I have a good track record of success in winning deals (hence improving my employer's topline numbers) in my presales/ bid management roles over the past 36 months or so as well as good references from my previous employers (from my ex local and regional bosses).

Just wonder what are my chances in securing a job which values my strengths and experiences as described above. I have initiated contact with a couple of Singapore-based recruiters and am fully aware that I will encounter hitches in my search for a job as a result of the "Singapore citizens/PRs preferred" criteria.

Perhaps someone here can share some pointers as to what I should prioritize in my job hunt.

All feedback is kindly appreciated.

From my experience I can say very difficult. Singaporean still have third world mentality and employment protection rule. That why most of IT companies are shifting to India, due to cheap and qualified people in India. Furthermore pay rise in Indian and Indian are becoming more open minded in hiring (see this BBC article “Call of India lures European workers

lchk,

Try applying at some system integrators like IBM, Fujitsu and Datacraft.

Good luck!

FINALLY! The task is completed!

I recently got a job (signed the letter of offer) whereby I will be moving to Singapore in a few months' time whilst an office is being set up there. Took me a good three months to find a job in Singapore but it was time and effort well spent on my part. A big thank you to the recruiter who helped me in my quest to land a Singapore-based job.
