Job market of Singapore / Living in Singapore

Post by prince999 » Thu, 03 May 2007 4:33 pm

Hi friends,
I am an Indian. Married and has two daughters. I currently work in Dubai. Earning around S$ 2200 per month.

My background:
I have been in shipping / freight forwarding industry for the past 9 years. I have 3 + years experience in Dubai in the relavant field.

Intention:
To get a job in Singapore with a decent salary. I have to take care of schooling for my children as well.

May I have the opinion from you if I can get a job there with a decent salary?

Hi,

If there isn't any forum member dealing with freight business, you are unlikely to get a useful advice. Why don't you contact with international freight companies who have offices in Singapore? You can have a better idea for what the possibilities are.

Cost of living in Singapore is quite high and you should keep it in mind during negotiations. Schooling for your daughters is also an important issue and if you think about an International School, that would also cost an important amount. Everything will depend on the salary package the company will offer.

At a later stage, if you find a company interested in you, you may share your salary package details and the forum members can help you with their comments. Try to get some feedback from the indian expats also. In our forum, there should be many members.

Good luck with your search.
With my kind regards

The bigger question is: Can you get a work permit to enter Singapore at all? To make a guess at this would need to know:

a) What it is that you are doing in the freight forwarding business
b) What kind of credentials you have
c) Any specialty skills in the freight forwarding business that would make you valuable (global contacts, for example).

Here are some Singapore sites which you may find it useful :-

www.mom.gov.sg which is the Ministry of Manpower website. Click on work permit foreign workers under work pass to obtain more information about some specific requirements

www.jobstreet.com.sg this is a jobsearch website where you can register for free and post your resume, apply for jobs in Singapore. You can also view industry-specific general salary information from this website . But remember, always be truthful in your resume/interviews as Singapore is a small place and facts just get found out eventually.

Hope you find the above info helpful.
