how franchising works depends on the franchising system of individual company. regard to the legal fees, of cos, have to depend on the company too. As long as its a legal business model where there's trading of physical goods/return/service. There shouldnt be any problem. copyright is the main legal concern here.

FnB is a very big industry. So have to depend on type of crusine or biz model already. for example, one of my friends got a franchise for a cafe for about 50-100k. Of cos, on top of the operating cost, leasing of equipments n rental, You still need to pay for the franchise service. For example, Mac charge 4% of profit from each franchise monthly.
