How about Indian expat social club?

Post by desh » Sun, 29 Apr 2007 6:10 pm

Fellow Indian expats,

With so many Indian professionals/expats living in Singapore now, don't you think the community should have its own social club (like other expat clubs in town...American Club, British Club etc)?

-D

Hi Desh

though it looks like this post may take time to gain momentum, we should keep working on it I guess. I can be involved as well, for I am self employed & would have time on ad-hoc basis.

wouldn't mind a gathering in a Indian (hindi/tamil) pub.. have you come across any hindi pub with some good band or with some good colleciton of old Hndi songs?

desh,

you may get a better response if you will do as you did in your second post on the thread on the angry board and explain yourself a little clearer about what you are on about and not on about. As can be seen by that thread, by the time you had returned the thread had been pretty severely mangled by the trollish types as well as those who assumed that you were a bigoted indian from india (of which sadly there are a few as that thread showed).

Just my observations and nothing more (I'm a Yank but married to a local Indian myself).

sms., thanks, I can do that. Btw, do you think posting it under "Events, Gatherings, Making Friends -> MBA - Members Of Bhartiya" section would get a better response for this topic?

Most definitely! But also remember you will also probably get some of the responses you got on the angry board as well. Every ethnic group have some of them including westerners! Course there are those like me who tends to straddle the divide.

If you want me to move the thread just send me an PM and I will no problems.

Baf,

Desh is a PR with, I believe,10 years in Singapore. He is aware of all the various Indian associations (~12 or more if counting the various SINDA organizations). He is investigating the interest of a commercial Indian Club along the lines of the American/British/Swiss/Hollandaise clubs.

Thanks SMS. You are absolutely right.

We are looking at a social Club for Indian community in Singapore along the lines of American/British/Swiss Club etc and would like to conduct a vote to find out how many people feel that there is a need for such a social Indian Club. This club would focus on the needs of Indian community without excluding any group of Indians or non-Indians from membership. To clarify, we are not talking about yet another association or a virtual group but a proper commercial Club with a club house, facilities etc. If you support the idea of creating a social Indian Club AND would like to know more or be involved, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thanks.

Personally, I haven't felt the need for a social Indian club. However, I can see that the idea has a lot of potential. Goodluck with the endeavour!

P.S. If I am promised authentic South Indian and Bengali food, I'm in. Especially, if 'Nagarjuna' and 'Oh Calcutta' open their restaurants here! :D
It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.
