Surfing and other water sports?

I have seen you can go wakeboarding/water skiing here but i was wondering about surfing? Kite surfing? close in the area? I hear that there is an island about an hour away where you can go in the wet season is that true?

You can go windsurfing and kitesurfing in Bintan. It's just 45 minutes away by ferry.

Of course you can go windsurfing in the east coast also, weather willing

i wish there were surf beaches here to go for a paddle.... *sigh*

If anyone is interested in doing some kitesurfing, I am looking at going to Bali for a few days over Vesak weekend. If you haven't kitesurfed before you can always learn. I am a beginner and will be looking at having a lesson or two myself. Here's a link to the guys I will be using:

unfortunately we can't surf here

windsurfing was huge 10-20 years ago, some people still do it, and kitesurfing is picking up here

the wind here can be pretty spotty

East Coast PA is the place I now go that the Pasta Fresca place shut, but I noticed their website is down

there is some surf in Phuket starting about now and in Malaysia later in the year

and of course there is always Bali...
