furnished vs unfurnished

Post by nillahcootie » Tue, 24 Apr 2007 4:01 am

We are anticipating a move to Singapore in September with the family...though one of us is commuting there for work right now from the US, and we'll be there in late June to look-see and make some decisions about condo/apt/duplex and schools, etc.

last time we moved abroad I discovered that there is a different assumption about what 'furnished' means, depending on the culture or society...

...can anyone advise what furnished means ( beds ? full kitchen/dining items ? appliances ? typical furnishings ?) in Singapore, compared to unfurnished (are major appliances included with an unfurnished unit such as fridge ?)

Thanks in advance !

A partially furnished apartment in Singapore tends to have air-con units and white goods (fridge and washing machine for sure, with some units offering an oven and even a tumble dryer) plus curtains. A lot of them come with built-in wardrobes as well.

A furnished apartment has all of the above plus beds, a sofa, coffee table, dining table and chairs and a tv as a minimum. Some come with bookshelves or some kind of unit in the living room. Bedding, towels, tableware and cookware are not provided, so you'll need to either bring your own or buy those items here.
