Eton House School

Post by amaa » Mon, 23 Apr 2007 10:18 pm

We are moving to Singapore from UK this summer and (rightly or wrongly) we have our 5 year old daughter down for Tanglin but looks like she can't get in until Sept 2008.
So we need to find a another school for her for a year at least. As far as we can tell most of the better known ones do not have places this year. One that does is Eton House - does anyone have any experience of this school ?
And does anyone see any problems with her going to Eton House for a year then transferring to Tanglin when she is 6.
Ideally we would like her to be able to stay in just one school for a few years but - unless we are missing something ? - this does not seem to be possible.

Thanks

My children started at EH just over 4 years ago in pre-school and now in primary (at the Broadrick site). I can't say I've got any major complaints about EH - they're getting a good education and have always been happy there.

We're from the UK too, but I really couldn't say how they'd fit back into the education system in the UK now as they'd only just started out at school when we came here but they both seem to be doing well there.

Over the years there have been lots of children I know who have attended Eton and then moved on to different schools around Singapore and they seem to do OK so I'm sure your daughter would be fine if she only did a year or so at EH and then moved.

The main thing people seem to moan about at EH is that the facilities are perhaps not as good as some of the others, but the school is fairly new by International School in Singapore standards (11 or 12 years now) and they do make improvements each year so it is getting better (a new computer lab this year).

Best thing to do would be to go and have a look around when you get here and see if you like it.

Etonhouse is fine. However there are quite a number of specialised preschool in Singapore too! Shop around and look for something that you are confident and comfortable with. I think you don't have to worry much bout the transition, with the education system in most preschools, most kids should do fine =)
