Nursing or CRA

Post by Ajorb » Wed, 11 Apr 2007 4:12 am

Would like to hear from any expats that are nursing in Singapore.
Relocating on a DP in July, with 15 yrs exp and wondering if there is any real chance of any operating theatre nursing jobs. I understand the process of applying through the nursing board etc.
Also considering training as CRA so would like to hear from any CRAs about their experience in SG. Maybe even part-time in a bar would be a nice change
.......or should I stay at home looking after my daughter letting wife go to work !!

Thanks - all info welcome[/b]

Not having much luck myself. . .

Hi! I'm an American RN with 8 years of ICU and trauma experience and I haven't gotten called back from any the hospitals that I applied to! Not sure why? Also, what I've heard is that the medical community in Singapore is not as respectful to nurses as they are in the States and the money is crap. Sorry to be so discouraging, just my experience so far. If you find anything else, please let me know. I just don't want to lose all my skills while I live here.

You are mostly right.

well, singaporeans don't respect much any service-line job.

you can try private hospitals where you can earn higher.

What's the matter? Does the truth hurt?

Not sure about specific, specialized nursing niches - but in general, there are many Filipinas and China-women who are nurses here - - this must really drive the salaries down. In addition, it is true that nursing is not a respected profession (overseas workers + mainly women) . I can imagine many hospitals and docs would be reluctant to hire Western women - not only do they want more money, I bet they are also more likely to challenge and speak back to doctors - and these doctors here would not want that. :( Top be frank, it may be the worst profession for an exapt Western woman to try to find a good job here (speculating).

Nursing in Singapore

I am a registered nurse in Singapore. Welcome to drop a message to disscuss nursing in Singapore. We know that qualified nurses are in high demand not only in Singapore but also around the world. Since you have degree in nursing, I think it's very easy for you to find a job in any healthcare organizations here, but the pay  ! I do have colleagues from NZ,AU, UK, they usually get better pay than the local staff:???: ! It's true a lot of foreign nurses in Singapore, but that's not the reason to drive the salaries down :( . without foreign nurses, hehe, :P :P , healthcare organizations in Singapore can not function well  :o 8-)!!

It is extremely right. Without foreign nurses, the hospital can not function. nurses' salary is low is not due to foreign nurses. what i know nursing is a very tough job in Singapore, due to Singaporean are very demanding and no respect on nurses. the nurses is under pay in Singapore also . if you want to be a nurse in Singapore, pls think it twice .[/b]
