Finding work and permit in singapore

Post by VILMA » Tue, 10 Apr 2007 8:36 pm

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me. Iam in Singapore with my partner who has been here for a year working as an expat. I would like to find a job in Singapore but I dont know how to go about in obtaining a work permit. My partner and I are not married and we have not been together for a very long time.

I have worked in accounts department, administration and is currently finishing my degree. Im in singapore under a visitor visa at the moment. I would like to find employment but there is a problem of how do I get a company to employ an expat when they could probably employ someone for less. Can anyone help me ?

Is there an alternative way that I can get around this problem?

Thanks for the reply. Can you clarify this for me, since you are in human resources, how and what is the best way to network. I have found it quite difficult to talk about jobs or to ask for jobs unless it was answering a job adverstisement. Im in a country that I dont really know many people. I guess I have to develop a thicker skin.

Anyway I thought I just ask, as this is a skill I need to develop and may prove to be useful.

Thanks in advance

Hi Vilma
I am currently in the exactly same situation...I have been looking for work since the beginning of the year and it is quite hard to find a company which wants a person without an employment pass...

if you manage to get a PR, suddenly the job situation gets a little easier.. that 's about the full extent of my experience here.
