Can A child obtain a student pass in singapore.....

Post by jamesie373 » Mon, 09 Apr 2007 4:29 pm

I am hoping to move to singapore with my son.
My boyfriend is currently working there under an employment visa, and is obtaining a long term social visit pass for me to be able to stay with him in singapore while he is working.

We would like to put my 3 year old son into school he would therefore require a student pass.

My question therefore is would my son be able to get a student pass if i am in the country under a social visit pass?

Obviously my boyfriend is there under a long term employment visa but my son has no legal assosication to that as we are not married and he is not my sons biological father.

Furthermore, what difference would it make if we were to get married as it is something we are considering in the future anyway?

Jamesie,

Your son is eligible to obtain a Student Pass (SP). It doesnt matter wether you are on a long term social visit pass or not. Immigration Checkpoint Authority (ICA) looks at every individual. As for your boyfriend, no prob as he is on an employment pass. As for your son, you can apply for a SP for him once you have found a school.

As for yourself, you have a choice to get a long term social visit pass or a "study mother" pass. This pass will be subjected to your son's studies instead of your boyfriend's EP.

Hi,

Need not worry abt a minor getting a student pass . They are more concerned abt adults abusing student pass just to stay in Singapore and work illegally .Child being a minor, you shld automatically get a pass for the same duration also. Remember to renew it before the final term ends so as to avoid rush. You shld get the letter of confirmation tht child will be studying the following year even if the following fees for the new term is not paid yet as normally there shld be a long break for the new academic year. It is a very straight forward process, efficient and when you have all docs required on hand

You are lucky to move to Singapore. I am a single parent with 13 yr daughter and the Malaysian authorities gave me 6 month each time and also insisted that I secure a local guardian for her and not to mention the chaotic system they have at the immigration offices.... so no tension and all will be well.

Good luck
