where to buy Win98 and WinNT install CDs?

Post by ChicagoMike » Wed, 04 Apr 2007 12:53 pm

like the title says, i want to buy (legal) copies of these (now outdated, and not supported by MS) operating systems. Windows 98SE, and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation.

I just want the basic versions, not any machine specific ones (i.e. don't want any recovery CDs with bunches of pre-installed extras software crap). Just need basic version so I can recover old files and continue to use some old applications. (also, these installs will never see an internet connection, so i have no concern about all the hundreds of thousands of viruses for these OSs).

I suggest that you search online auctions for these legal installer CDs. Or if you have a friend who's a system admin, you can ask him to sell you the old installation CDs. Other option is for you to look for the old Microsoft Press books about Windows NT and Windows 98. It usually comes with an installation CD but it's usually good for 90-day trial.

Good luck!

If you had bothered to read the original post he told you why. Obviously he doesn't need them to run the old software/files he needs to access. ](*,)
