A NO-NO.

Post by Intrinsic Dreamer » Mon, 02 Apr 2007 11:11 pm

The ONLY reason why 1 gurl got in and you didn't is simple.
Cuz she is better than you..

Better in wad way, most ppl wouldn't be able to see.

For it is human nature to, more often than not, think one is better than the other.

She may be more smiley, may be more outgoing, may simply be more humble & friendly & thus be more suitable for the job as an FA,
may be WHATEVER the interviewer is looking for.
But not you.

The interviewer knows best.

We all will think "she talks too much, she put on like sooo much make-up, she's not even pretty, she can't even speak well, she's so fake, she just can speak a foreign language........."

Why???
Becuz we think we're better than them.

Don't u think we're all beginning to sound like very nasty?

How hurt will these gurls be if they happen to chance upon this forum and find out how other gurls think & have said about them?

How would u feel if it was u?

Sad, depressed, unhappy, yes.... all unsuccessful candidates will feel that way.

BUT that doesnt, NO it doesnt, give u a reason to put others down.

If u spend so much tym and energy thinking about the bads of others and the goods of urself,
why not use the tym to analyse what went wrong during YOUR interview and perhaps spend more tym reflecting on how YOU are gonna improve urself?
And thus UP your OWN chances in the upcoming interviews?

There is NO competition at ANY interviews.
IF u are good, u ARE PICKED.

If many girls in your group are good, the MANY girls will be picked.

THIS IS NOT A PAGEANT.

AIRLINE recruitment exercises ARE NOT PAGEANTS.

It is an interview. IF u are good, no one's gonna reject u. NO ONE.
If u can offer the company just what they think they are looking for, U're taken.
Simple as that.

Just don't go putting people down.

The cause of your failure isn't them.

PS: A penny for my thoughts.
This is directed to no one in particular. Just a trend i see in A PARTICULAR thread. :(

Not true; one applicant performed better than the other; the situation could have easily been in reverse.

Wow Intrinsic Dreamer, you sounds really upset.

Sometimes I wonder if knowing too much 'information' is a good thing.
Probably some girls already have a 'sculpture' interview in their mind which they think it should be THAT way.

I too go into forums and ask around my successful friends (all get in the 1st try) what they did in particular to bring themselves out.
And I heard stuffs, I did stuffs and I just realised some virtures like confidence can't fake during an interview.

After several attempts, a friend told me not to speak too much during the interview. I did, and I wasn't given the 2nd chance.
I felt weird because I saw that the girls who gave a long speech managed to get thru.
Some told me speak more, some told me speak less = less mistake.
What I can say, do what you want to do and feel is right.

As some of you here know I went for Silkair interview. I am really glad I got to the management interview althought I didn't make it.
This is where I found out where my mistake is and where I should work on.

Girls who went for interviews several times...
I am sure at least one or two girls caught your eyes. And they didn't make it, and you wonder why?
I always see very beautiful girls being eliminated. I ponder...

I personally feel that sometimes it's not what is wrong with your speech or make up. It's probably how you carry yourself.
Don't you feel that this is one thing very difficult to see for yourself?

Look around and observe during an interview.
Put your hearts into it and I am sure you can learnt something out of it, may you get thru or not.

Think more for yourself, how to improve your chance during the interview.
I am sure with the right attitude, one will definately succeed.

But I also feel, luck plays a part, because airline have quota how many FA to recruit per interview section.

I am not sure which thread Intrinsic Dreamer was referring to.
But what she wrote reminds me of the girls gossiping outside the hotel while I was going for my interview.
Girls... let's work hard and improve ourselves.
And May All Our Dreams Come True... :)

True. Even if a girl does not really have what it takes but if she makes it to the next round, it clearly shows that at least she is smart enough to act or bluff her way through by trying to appear more smiley, friendly, poised etc..

I was at the Emirates interview, and then the briefing by SASS atlantic. The guy was telling us that there's this girl who has been going for their interviews so many times but they cannot let her through because she is too shy and doesn't even maintain eye contact with the interviewers!

So, I really urge you girls out there who wish to pursue ur dreams to do a checklist.. One very good example to extract these guidelines is to get it from Emirates website. Don't ask me where, b/c if u r really interested, u shd be hardworking enough to do ur own homework.

We cannot always expect people to feed you with information and let u pass in an interview because the sad truth is, only the creme de la creme will be picked. It's a competition, whether we like it or not.. :-|

And can I just say, don't expect to find answers from this forum to 'pass' ur interviews? It's all about your personality and your answers, not the questions posed.

Success is all about hard work and a bit of sheer luck.

im just upset that some ppl sub-consciously, i hope not purposely, put other girls down because they didn't make it to the end..

I mean, u don't have to "that girl is this or that and she passed?!?!"

Plavt, i've no idea what u mean.
Care to explain further?
Are u trying to say i should have added the word "performed" in?

Hmm.. Septemberr, i dun agree with u when u say its a competition.

It isn't.

Its an interview.
And though they do take only the best, it doesn't mean that the interviewers will look through all the applicants and compare who is better than who.

They don't. Do u get what i'm tryin to type?

They look at u on an INDIVIDUAL basis.

Whether U ALONE have what they want.

They don't compare u with the others in ur group and take the best there. NO.

Do u get what i'm tryin to say?

So this isn't a pageant where they take the BEST there.

Pageants are more subjective. The judges compare u with the other gurls. Like really compare u from head to toe and your other attributes.

For airline INTERVIEWS, they compare u with their ideal girl in THEIR mind. Their Emirates girl, their SIA girl, their whatever.

Not u and the other applicants.

To all the gurls out there, don't treat this like a competition or pageant.

DON'T look at other gurls and belittle urself or feel demoralized because u think so & so is much better than u..

All u need is the confidence, the poise, the elegance to be WHAT the interviewers want.

Thats why they are INTERVIEWERS, not JUDGES.

There's a whole lot of difference, u know....

Well well, if you have what it takes to be there during the final interview, you're almost there.

Even though if you do not make it, it doesn't mean that you're not suitable for the job because you might have met with a high level management staff. The higher the position of the interviewers, the higher the expectations they have for you. But of course, luck do plays a part here.

Lastly, it does matter to SIA if they are in need of crews at that period of time because that will determine the level of difficulty of the interview. If they are desperately in need of crews, the interview will be easier and smoother than a non peak period. :)

I bet you just about to start your career in this line huh?
You are going for more than just a job here....

One piece of advice: this forum is nothing compare to the reality world you going to face when you start flying. just let it be.. let others think what they want to think.
While you, just do your job and earn the money.
what matter most is you get paid; not of what others should think or say.

Let's not get personal guys...

Intrinsic Dreamer, airing your views out in the open like this will not do you any good. you have every right to get upset but people have their right to think what they want and say what they want too. This is a forum afterall. dont get so affected. just stay humble.

I agree with queenie-me. you'll have lots to learn when you start working.

my current colleague, she worked in SQ for 10years. She was a lead stewardess before she ended her flying career. She told me.. it's better to be humble and you must be willing to accept criticisms. No arguement is allowed, alw remember to introduce yourself to whom you dont know (else you will get nasty remarks in the flight!). AND nv nv nv forget you Excuse me, Sorry and Thank You. Kind of basic manners... but it's hold high importance in the line.

No linkage i know. :D

ANYWAY, Intrinsic Dreamer, chill chill!!
Take it easy... you may meet those even meaner colleagues on flight. Learn the art of ignoring. Yup.. Dont be affected by others. Yea?

Cheers!

why iz dere a need for her to chill? she's not angry, is she?

u're right. u must not talk back when u're working..
my mother tells me the same thing. she's chief stewardess.

queenie me: u're right. in reality, its going to be worse. but some gals can get very upset when they hear other gals bitching about other gals. sentimental eh? My fren will cry over it.
guess intrinsic is the type?

dont be sad intrinsic, the working world is like that. listen to queenie me, let others think wad they wanna think. so long u are not like them, not bitchy as them, thn its gd! :)

emalf: u seem to be contradicting urself eh? u told dreamer tt maybe she shuldnt air her views and tt she has every right to gt upset but ppl have evry right to think and say wad they want?

hm. isnt dreamer saying what she feels too? she mite also think wad she says is ok since this is a forum.
besides, she dint point fingers at any1.
er, wadsit gotta do wif being humble? did she boast bout anything?
sumhow think u guys are bit too harsh on her.

ok, dreamer. i believe u were nt tryin to make ppl sound dumb. think u were tryin to put ur point across and u were afraid tt wad u typed wuldnt make sense rite? i saw most of ur posts, u love the smileys and emoticons.

maybe u shulda added sum in that post so septemberr wuldn be mistaken?

Sorry Dreamer girl,

I dont quite actually agree with wat u say.. cause i've been thru many interviews befor i got thru.. and it is a shock to see the results after the interview.. the ones that can talk and smile didnt get but a guy who is so damn bloody blur and talk with an ummmh arrhhhhs and long pauses can get thru.. and for me wen i was so damn bloody nervous and stutter and the results were the opposite.. Maybe u just been thru the interview 1 time or twice and you are lucky to get thru.. trust me up till now, most of us dont know how they select the ppl for the 1st round interview..

Cheers
