Advice on baby furniture and strollers/travel systems

Post by sgnathan » Mon, 02 Apr 2007 12:50 pm

Hi,
I've just moved to Singapore and am expecting my first child in 2 months. I'd appreciate any info you can provide me on the following -
1. Good stores to buy nursery furniture and other baby stuff. Any recommendations on brands or things to look out for.
2. Any recommendations on strollers (pros and cons of different models). I've seen the Pergo Perego Pilko 3 model but have so far struggled to find a good store where I can compare different models.
3. How long does it take for stores to deliver everything? Is there a waiting time? Will stores take orders but only deliver once the baby is born?

Thanks,
Shaifali

Hi Shaifali,

Some of the shops that sell baby stuff are Paragon, Forum on Orchard, Great World City (mother works) and Robinsons at Raffles City.

Like you, I am also pregnant but i am waiting to but my furniture until i am 7 months pregnant.

Hope to hear from you,

Yasemin

The best place I have found to buy just about everything you need is Mother's Work in Great World City. You should order items like baby furniture well in advance in case the items you want are out of stock. The cot we wanted took 3 months to arrive from Australia. I like the Boori (Australian brand) we bought. It is good quality, meets rigorous safety standards like those of the U.S. and U.K., and looks great. Many of the cheaper Asian made cots don't meet those standards.

As for prams, we got ours there as well. There are lots to choose from so you can compare while you are there. The staff is quite helpful with the features of each model.

If you spend a certain amount at Mother's Work, you will get a VIP card that entitles you to 10% most everything.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi ive been reading your posts and just wanted to give you a little advice that lots of people gave to me when i was looking for a pram...
I was looking at all different models of all shapes and sizes and alot of people told me that if i bought a pram i would end up buying a stroller too by the time the baby was 6 months old as they are so much easier to fit in car, travel with etc
So i bought a Maclaren stroller that was suitable from birth and it has been amazing, the best buy ive had and it was alot cheaper than a big fancy pram...
Hope this helps

Helen

Thanks for getting back to me. I was feeling a bit lost so your responses are really useful. I am taking my husband to mothers works over the weekend and hopefully we should be able to finalise the things we need.
