Sure, many other airlines like SIA flys there. But how often does one particular SQ crew flys to Colombo? Probably once or twice a year.
As compared to how often does a SIN-based CX crew flys there? Practically everyday! Cos that's your only route. Do some mathemathical calculations on probability.
The bombing is not fake. It is real.. I have witnessed my Australian friend lost his whole family in the Bali bombings. You don't know how scary it is unless you see it right before your very eyes. His mum had only the upper torso when I saw her in the coffin. His Dad was practically in several pieces.
Why risk your life to do something that another country's people are not willing to do? Why degrade yourself like that? I believe that we Singaporeans should not be bullied by another country. We are not like Bangladesh.
Why did Bangladesh people come to work in Singapore as construction workers? Because no Singaporeans want to do that.
Why did Cathay set up a Singapore base and hire Singaporeans that only flys to Colombo? Simply because no Hongkong crew wants to fly there. They know the impending dangers and they value their lives.
You know why they didn't even ask you to produce any education certificates for the initial interview but only your passport, photo and IC?
This is because they simply don't care, they need someone to do the dirty work. They will only be too glad to take you in if you are willing to.
For those who still insist on trying, by all means go ahead. Rejoice, be happy about it. Celebrate, cos it might be your last.
Enough said.
furthermore.. there are many other airlines that are still flying to colombo. not only CX.. sia flies there too.
so i dont see wats the problem actually.
Colombo bombing exposes security failings
Defence Secretary has a narrow escape as his Presidential-style screen is penetrated. Luck, not security, say analysts
1) A daring suicide bombing against Sri Lanka's top defence official has exposed gaping security gaps, stoking fears that the Tamil Tigers could resort to more spectacular strikes, officials and analysts say.
2) The driver of an auto-rickshaw breached the tightest security and detonated explosives packed into his three-wheel contraption Friday as defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse drove past in a heavily armed convoy in Colombo.
Police blamed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The attack was along a street where plain-clothed intelligence agents had been deployed to check for “suspicious activity.”

Funky,
Just so you know, the reason behind Cathay Pacific opening up a SIN base is due to cost cutting measures and nothing else. So stop speculating nonsense and do some homework.
Your comparision with construction workers and airline crew! Amatuer! There is a vast difference in terms of job duties and job hazards between the 2 roles. What exactly do you mean by we are not Bangladesh to be bullied? Are you insinuating that Singaporeans bully Bangladeshi Workers? They are here for one cause and that's to earn a living and the reason why Singaporeans do not take up such jobs is for obvious reasons. Salary and of course the nature of the job. Having said that, it;s better to have a proper job and work for a living as opposed to NOT working and living off your parents or stealing to get by. There is absolutely no reason for you to compare 2 countries or nationalities rather to get your "point" across. Having that that, you hardly made your point cos there wasn;t one to begin with.
For those of you whom are going for the Cathy interview, don;t pay any attention to the BS that Funky is coming up with. Best of luck to all those who are going
