We May Watch More Cricket on Tele Now

Now that India is out of the World Cup (assuming Bangladesh beat Bermuda today) I hope we will be able to watch more cricket on television for the rst of the World Cup.

I was very irritated by the frequency of advertisements coming on during the telecast shown via Starhub (when I paid over $100 for the feed I thought we were getting an adverts free telecast). It was the Indian feed we were getting with all those hyped-up ads featuring Indian cricket and Bollywood stars.

The adverts came on immediately when the last ball of the over left the bat and more than once I was left wondering how many runs they may have run for that ball until we went back to the action when the bowler was bending his arms to send the first delivery of the next over. Sometimes we even got adverts coming in the middle of the over ... if the bastman called for some medical attention or the captain decided to have a chat to the bowler.

This is commercialism going mad in my opinion and greed having no limit. Next time I will think twice before subscribing to an indian channel to watch cricket.

I think he means one of the "Pay extra for another channel" type of things:

telecast shown via Starhub (when I paid over $100 for the feed I thought we were getting an adverts free telecast). It was the Indian feed we were getting with all those hyped-up ads featuring Indian cricket and Bollywood stars.

I pay an additional $4/month for "Sun TV" on Channel 29 which is also an India channel being offered here. (My MiL virtually lives on the channel in her bedroom).

My dear boy, Starhub is the service provider to whom you pay subscriptions for various channels. For the hard of thinking some of these provide clues in their titles e.g National Geographic CHANNEL, The Disney CHANNEL. Starhub also send out promotional material asking its customers whether they wish to subscribe to this channel, that channel or the other channel. Starhub is not a channel, QED.

The channel that provides the coverage of the world cup cricket broadcasts from India. I guess that makes it, ahem, an Indian channel. Describing it thus is not racist.

Don't worry SMS, no response on cricket rigging needed here. You can keep your tin hat in the cupboard.
