I am currently living in the UK and am planning to emigrate to Australia. I have a permanent residency visa for Australia and was hoping to move with my company in October. Unfortunately due to internal problems/politics it is not possible to move to Australia directly but it has been suggested that if I move to Singapore in October for 6 months, then they would be able to move me to Australia in April. Singapore is the head office for the Asia Pac region for my company so once I join that region, it would be easier to move me within the region.
My wife and kids would move to Australia in October where we have already accomodation and I would join them 6 months later. I did the finances as I would not be offered an expat package and thought it would be financially OK if I could get an appartment near CBD, my office would be on Beach Road near Bugis, for between $2,500 -$3,000 Sing (based on looking at property rental websites.) However on talking to an expat friend, he told me that rentals are usually on 2 year terms and that I would need to go into a serviced appartment and that rents had risen sharply recently.
I have searched the forum for up to date post and have not found anything but if anyone has a link to posts that can help me with suggestions for locations and realistic prices for a 2 bedroomed serviced appartment with a pool and gym near to my office, or can give me some information,I would really appreciate the help.
I need to make a decision next week and all information that I have will help my decision making process and any potential bargaining position that I may have.
