Preschools in Holland Rd area??

Post by beargirl » Fri, 16 Mar 2007 10:30 am

Hi,
We are moving to Singapore this spring and I'm looking for a small preschool for our 3 yo. If anyone have info about schools around Jelita, Ridgewood I would really appreciate that. I'm not very keen on Montessori schools.

I'm not keen with Montessori either, but around the neighbourhood you mentioned I found Buttercups Montessori as a good pre-school. Might want to check it out yourself.

Good luck!

I also found them. I know there're also Pat's schoolhouse, Happy Joy School house, something like United Educare around there. Does anyone have any experience of any of those? Oh, and also a question: Is it common practise that schools don't post their fees on internet and don't give them to you even asked for over an email? All the registration forms that I've seen just say 'submit the form and pay non-refundable registration fee and we'll let you know when we have a place available for your child.' I find this very sneaky. :x

It's called holding your cards close to your chest. If they put their prices out there before getting a deposit then they stand the chance of being undercut without even getting a chance to compete (if you dismiss them out of hand before visiting the school or whatever completely on price alone). Yes, I agree it's a bit frustrating but welcome to asia were backstabbing and cutthroat practices abound unfettered due to no protective legislation for the most part. Cavet Emptor as the saying goes. I wouldn't put my kids into any school before having a look at the school in the first person.

Agree with SMS - won't put my kids into any school before having a look into the school in person.

Suggest that you go to the schools yourself, do the checking and comparison yourself. What might work for a kid (and their mom's), might not work for the others.

From the 3 names you mentioned, I did look into United Educare... but it was out of our budget javascript:emoticon(':(') But I knew someone whose child was not happy with the school.

I have a different experience, maybe because I called before visiting them. The first thing they mentioned is the price, and not the program!

Let me know if you need any help...

Absolutely right about visiting schools first!

As a teacher myself, I know there are lots different practises at schools and I'm VERY picky. I just wanted to save time and not even bother with over priced schools... Maybe I do a round of calls first and see what I can find out before visiting them.

Hello, l live in the same area and ended up with a fantastic preschool in Shelford Rd, as l just couldn't find one near me that l liked. I do drive and the commute isn't so bad, but l do long for the preschool down the road that l can walk to....

you could try looking for a kindergarten (3-6 yo) near your place using this database:
