Hi,
Just had someone tell us that our DVD player wont work in Singapore due to the different country codes on the DVDs. Is this true? I thot DVDs should work on all DVD players.
We have 2 DVD players and would need to get rid of it b4 we leave if it wont work there.

DVD player from Oz - will it work in Singapore
The problem is the region coding. If you bought the player in Aus, it will only play region 3 (or whatever region Aus is
). The shops here sell from regions all over the world, so if you really wanted to you should be able to find dvds with the right region.
Personally, I would just get a new player here, they're less than $100 now and seem to be fair quality. Plus they will be region free, meaning you can play dvds from anywhere in the world.

You won't get much for it if you sell it back in Australia. I would personally leave it with a relative or friend till you get back.
DVD players are getting cheaper in Singapore. I just bought one for under $100 which includes subwoofer & 4 smaller speakers.
Cost of buying DVD movies though are expensive. I think it will take a while before it catches on in the same way VCD's are popular here, so prices are still too high compared to Australia.
The other thing is, if you end up buying DVD movies in Singapore, there's a good chance some scenes were deleted when you compare it to the Aussie bought version. I bought the anniversary DVD of the Exorcist, with "never seen before scenes", only to find the "never seen before scenes" were censored out. Renting DVD's here is very expensive as well - I'm used to paying $2 overnight back in Melbourne at my local Videobuster store.
