Hi qatarbabe,

you mean theres a chance that we only get turn-around flights for 1 whole month? That means we will only be in Doha that whole month? Thats a scary thought..

I guess its really tough to stay in a muslim country when you are not one yourself. All the restrictions, different food and culture. Do they pray 5 times a day in Doha too? By the way, are the crew supposed to chant the Quran as well?

On top of that, if we have 3 straight off days and we wanna return to Singapore, we can only spend one and a half days in Singapore because of the 12-hour restriction.. :(

Do you know for United Airlines crew, they get to travel first class or business when they book air tickets? Why is it that in Qatar, they treat their crew like cargo? They bump you off the plane when the plane is full? Where is the welfare?

No wonder toygirl said so many people quit after a while..

Well, simple reply.

QR's Biz Class & 1st Class are prob the most expensive in the industry & the creme de la creme is usually in there. Our Economy class is fondly known (for now) as the Cattle Class.. Usually its the workers that are in this class, followed by back packers.. WE ARE of course trying to change that image, but that will take time.

Economically, as long as first & business is filled with FULL PAYING customers, economy can fly empty & we'd still make a profit. Having said that, why would we then be placed in there when its more financially profitable to put potential business class passengers (like our frequent flyers).

Yes, its not a fair system, but these are the "perks" of joinin QR. We are very lucky compared to other airlines. NOT many have super long layovers. Like we have 6 day Madrid, 8 day Shanghai, 5 day Beijing .. and more to come.Other airlines are doing 24 hours on most destination..

Frankly, if you just focus on looking at our perks, it is tolerable. The foreigners here are focused on earning $ (coz for them, its way better than they'll ever get working in their own country) & most of the time, not much gossiping or bitching is done (only we singaporeans tend to get into trouble coz of our constant complaints & gossiping & whining.. NOT A GD THING), they just work, enjoy layovers, and ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER FLIGHT. Most of the foreign crew here are very down to earth & realistic. Some even have children & family to support. Very admirable people.

We are not required to chant the Quran. Don't worry. There's a quiet religious respect for each other but... the muslims here do pray 5 times a day. It takes a while to get used to it coz you can hear it THROUGH OUT the country. It becomes a lullaby for me after a while.

Wow!! Long layovers? That'll be nice. Can rest in hotel and go sight-seeing. At least we won't need to spend most of our time in Doha.

Qatarbabe, do we get to fly to all destinations like New York, London and Paris during our first two months? Or in the beginning we'll only get flights to Dubai and China etc? As in not so attractive countries?

haha! i think dubai is very attractive! at least they have more to offer than doha...

anyway, heard that luggages always get lost at doha's airport and the ground staff are v rude. flights r always delayed and Qatar earned it's 5stars apparently for the business and first class service only (and not the service provided by the cabin crew... <-- so why stress on customer service right? duhh). Is it true?

What if I'm being fired by the CEO before my bond ends? Am I to pay for my flight back to SG? Will I be given the pay that I undergone training etc?

Anyway, still not news from Serlina... Still no news next wk I will go for CX's interview... received their invitation... <-- action only la

Hi hi

Well, for flights .. well, you'll normally first be trained on the small aircraft (A320/319/321) and one big aircraft (A300) .. Then, you'll prob fly to destinations which goes on this aircraft for like a mth or so and then you'll b trained again for the A330 which of course flies to majority of the destinations and then later on the A340 ..

It really also depends on your luck and whether the computer system likes your name. Nothing is ever certain in this airline. I was blessed when I first started with a normal mix of turn arounds and layovers. Others, got ALL turn arounds, while others got ALL layovers..

If you guys get fired, you don't need to pay the bond la. Thats what most crew here are doing. They do stupid things, get themselves fired and then they get away with paying the bond.. But of course, coz of these little buggers, more rules start popping up for us, making it even harder for us to live.. its a vicious cycle here.

In regards to service, once again its a vicious cycle .. For me, i enjoyed working in Economy because there was less stress, pax are easy to handle and thus makes me wanna make them happy, leading to good service.. In business and first.. aiyo .. headache.. one drip and you can get demoted.

The thing is this .. You will fly the shitty flights .. where people don't know how to use the toilets but hey, part of our job is to clean that toilet up whether you like it or not.. You can choose not to clean it but if you encounter a bad CS or CSD (Cabin Senior /Cabin Service Director), she can easily report you.. and if passengers report, its not just you that gets into trouble, the entire crew gets into trouble .. is it worth it ?

So, bad service has its repercussions.. The pax may not be rich, but you do not know who travels in Economy.. And they ALL know how to complain.. Especially our Singaporean passengers (i'm sorry but its so damn true) ..

As an added note: CEO is known to have his spies.. where he pays some pple or crew a little extra. So guys, be careful who you trust.. be friendly and all but know when to draw the line and if you guys intend to break the rules (which is normal, pple break rules) .. please make sure you don't share your devious plans with the whole world or get caught.

The life of cabin crew is so tough. Starts with hectic and stressful interviews, going through so many rounds.

Finally, get the job. Then, have to tactful with human relationship, if not trouble will be ahead of you.

The happier moments are to travel around the world and meet different races. All these contributed to be a wiser person.

Nevertheless, these trained the person to be independent and better in seeing life and things.

i think it really boils down to individual. what is important is to remind urself why u choose to be there. when u r focused on that, nothing else matters much. all airlines have their own politics. just be urself and do what ur supposed to do.

aiyaa... all part of growing up... focus on the positive and we'll be happy!
