Advantage of Permanent Resident Status?

I am wondering what the advantage is of applying for permanent resident status, over Employment Pass holder.

Are there tax advantages, or eligibility for social benefits (e.g. HDB housing)?

Working here in sg for 6 years only with LTVP extending throughout.

My wife is a singapore citizen...
