Best way from East Coast (Marine Parade) to downtown or MRT?

Post by audiojunky » Fri, 02 Mar 2007 4:25 pm

Hi,

can anyone suggest what might be the best way to travel from Marine Parade Rd in the East Coast to an MRT or downtown (Orchard, Raffles, City Hall etc.)

Also, how long does it typically take?

I heard that there in an express bus, 196e, but how long does this bus ride take and is it really crowded?

I took the bus from Marine Parade to Bedok to catch the MRT but this seems in the opposite direction.

Thanks a ton!!

For Suntec, Orchard etc I get the No 36. It goes on the ECP after Tanjong Katong Rd so it is a bit quicker. Can take about 15-20 mins to Suntec and 30 to 45 mins to the top of Orchard (depending on traffic and driver capability!!!)

If I want the MRT I get the 135 or the 76 to the MRT at Paya Lebar. (I don't get the MRT to Orchard area as it takes longer than the 36).

197 goes down South Bridge Rd but takes quite a while (useful for Chinatown and Clarke/Boat Quay).

196 goes through the CBD. Never tried the express version of it.

There is a bus plus service which goes to the CBD in the mornings but I haven't tried it (not sure who runs it but you may be able to find info on line about it).

Hope this helps.

take bus no. 36 for all the places you mentioned.... it passes by all this roads you'll pass y Suntec and several stops after would be City hall and after that i'm not sure how many but you'll pass by raffles city... then of course after some more stops you'll find yourself in orchard... take this bus you'll never go wrong... hehe...

Need to know what part of Marine Parade as it is a long, long road. Others have given you the correct information, though.

Hi - thanks a LOT for all the help. This is indeed very helpful. I think Bus #36 seems to be a very good (and direct) option. On the website, it says 36 minutes to Orchard (Somerset to be more exact).

I stay in Laguna Park. The place I need to go to is Somerset MRT Station.

The other option which I tried was to take a bus to Bedok and then take the MRT to City Hall and then Somerset. This was quite fast (35 minutes or so) but you need to make 2 changes and you cannot even get a place to sit!!!

I took 196e today to Raffles MRT and then to Somerset but it took me more than 1 hr!!!

Be aware that at peak hours you also may not get a seat at the bus either audiojunky... :(

From Laguna Park to Somerset by bus to bedok and then mrt to somerset, like you did, is indeed the fastest option, for sure.

Try at the far end of the mrt, either in front or at the back, often the best options for seats!
